BELATED HAPPY RECAP

This is our WEEKENED IN A NUTSHELL a.k.a. WEEKEND RECAP (delayed version). All apologies for the strapped timing being that it is almost the weekend after the last weekend but here I go anyways. There is no better feeling than your family visiting for a long weekend. Even more so if they trekked 3k miles (from Florida) to get to your house, so thank you kuya Boyet, ate Mely, Kimberly and all my fam that came to visit. I didn't mean to keep ya'll waiting on who our new blogger is but "I got caught up" is the unadulterated reason for it. Without further ado, I present to you the freshest fish in our pond, RJ a.k.a. "RED". You will get a chance to get into his persona soon, but for now, the photo below will have to suffice.

Also, thank you to Hella Tight for giving Bottom Shelf a shoutout on their twitter.

AAAND congratulations to the Future Funk for the very obvious reason which I'm not at liberty to even slightly mention. Let's just say they're gonna' be in Hollywood for several weeks, all right? Support the FUTURE!!!!

Lastly, our website has a slightly new face so please check it out and tell your friends. Add us on twitter and facebook by clicking on the F or T icon on the bottom left of the home page. Or you can click HERE for facebook or HERE for Twitter. Salamat po and Come Follow!

EVERY

Staying on that Kooley High tip Rapsody spits raw on "every" produced by 9th wonder. Rapsody is one of the few female emcees that can actually rip the mic. Had a wonderful chance to catch her live and she definitely holds her own in an industry where a female emcee is very easily stereotyped. Video was shot by Kenneth Price who is a genius behind the lens. The whole vibe and tone of the shoot was perfect shouts out to the Kooley High fam, K Price and the whole 9th wonder camp for a job well done.

WEBSITE RECONSTRUCTION

Our website is going through a small face lift that will get us back on the right direction. Certain things rudimentary to any t-shirt company we will install. So if you've wondered what Bottom Shelf really is when you first visited our website and had to do more clicking to unmask the mystery, you will no longer be required to click come tomorrow. The new flash photos will yell "WE SELL DOPE SHIRTS" rather than squawk "WE HAVE DOPE PHOTOS". The special delivery will be tomorrow night so mark your calendars and Come Follow.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

The most imperative 80's band that contoured the music we listen to today would have to be (in my own biased humble opinion) The Smiths. Though 7 years (1980-1987) seemed such a brief time for a band (in retrospect, that's actually pretty long for a band) they have earmarked their music permanently into whatever the present state is. I don't know too much about other people but i listen to them plenty, and its 2010. As I digress to the real essence of this post, we made a video homage/cover of one of my treasured The Smiths song called "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want". The video was filmed in Pampanga, Philippines in such a random direction. There were no master plans and things were not sketched out before filming, nothing but the independent spirit and a 5d/7d combination. Credit goes to Jamie Montalban (vocals), J.M. Edquilang (guitar), and of course The Smiths. AAAAAND it doesn't hurt to suit them up with Bottom Shelf shirts either, nothing but a despicable product placement. In essence, buy our shirts please. Come follow.

STILL U.S.A.

So I heard Rome wasn't built in a day, but built it was. Soon, we will be built. Congratulations to team U.S.A. despite whatever.

Moving on to the Weekend Recap, I finally had the opportunity to piece together the video we shot of my niece Jamie and my nephew J.M. covering The Smiths' "please, please" back in Philippines. These clips were spontaneously shot unplanned and the best thing about it was the fact that it was shot in Philippines. I just saw their skills, then I picked a song for them. As random as it may sound, the clips turned out to be pretty good, plus you can't go wrong with The Smiths. It will be up soon so take heed.

Bottom Shelf Hawaii chapter went on a little hike. That's Josh after the 3,922 stairs. At that point, you can see the East and West side of Hawaii at one single pan.

halfway mark on the way down. There goes Gabe.

We had a small photoshoot for the Future Funk shirts. This is a shot of Kiana (Mile's big sister, Emanon), Miles (a.k.a. Baby Boogaloo/Emanon/Future Funk), Mekela (our niece), Bailey (a.k.a. Bailrok/Rocksteady Crew/Future Funk), and Faithe (Bailey's lil' sis). Go and add them on facebook and Come Follow.

U.S.A.

Congratulations to U.S.A. for making history against Algeria. It was a tough strenuous battle but we came out with the double u. And remember the iconic time square post WW2 random nurse and a sailor getting their saliva on? I love that shot. R.I.P. to Edith Shaine, the famed nurse on the image. So I finally finished the Miles Brown video set to go to Japan and launch from his youtube account here. That kid is arguably the best 5 year old locker/popper/bboy right now. Support the Future Funk on America's Got Talent and don't sleep. Also lookout for the photos we (bottom shelf x pinhole idiots) shot after the filming. I will put those up soon so Come follow.

fresh rendition of the illustrious photograph. Legos baby. Got it from Balakov's Setups' flicker.

9TH WONDERFUL WORLD OF MUSIC

It's good to be back home to see the homies again. Last Friday Cheryl and I had the chance to kick it with some Bottom Shelf fam aka the world famous away team (Sean Boog & Khrysis). We checked out the 9th wonder showcase that featured his new music ventures. It feels good to know that hip-hop music is in good hands. We had a great opportunity to witness a sick showcase of young talent straight from the streets of North Carolina. It's great to see people who have made it, look back and help other artists fulfill their dreams. 9th wonder has put together a lethal line up that consists of 3 factions (IWW music group, Jamala and The Academy). We were blessed with the sounds of King Mez, Thee Tom Hardy, Cooley High, Big Remo, Actual Proof and many more gifted spitters. Those who say that hip-hop is dead has definitely not heard what's coming out of NC. Be on the look out for these artists. Check out some teaser pics of the show below and stay tuned...

WEEKEND RECAP

Good weekend as always. Happy Father's Day to all the pops in the world. It was a busy one for us and got a whole lot of labor intensive projects and things going on. We (Bottom Shelf and Pinhole Idiots) will be doing a video and a photo shoot of Miles "BABY BOOGALOO" Brown on Monday so we had to scout a few spots around Ventura county. This video will be going out to Japan this Friday (not too sure about the specifics) so this week will be a jumble of a whole lot of creative things. If Eya wasn't taking care of all the paper works, I will be so disoriented. So shout outs to Eya, you're killin' them. We rolled through an Emanon recital which had mad groups in the line up including Pandesoul and Miles Brown. I will be choppin' up the videos of Emanon, Pandesoul, and Miles so look out for that, but for now, here are some photos of the weekend. Come follow.

the spot we picked for Mile's photo shoot. Two words: steel and concrete. Oh, and that's Leo (Pinhole Idiots/photographer extraordinaire) in the corner.

That's Byron Bucao (creator of Emanon) holdin' up the West County newspaper's front page. It just so happens that Emanon made it on the front page.

I felt out of place because I was wearing my chucks. I felt like Kevin Arnold from Wonder Years being in a gym and feeling out of place.

Pandesoul crew. 805 represent.

This shot is not vintage, Eya really shot this yesterday and that really is Miles Brown from America's Got Talent (with Bailrok from Rocksteady Crew). And He really is from the 805. Really.

Emanon.

WEEKEND JUMPOFF

This weekend, Bottom Shelf is everywhere. Stephen and Cheryl is in North Carolina doing some business with the Justus League, Ngoc and Kao will be in vegas, Eya and I will be hitting up a few spots (maybe LA fashion district) holding it down in SoCal, we got mad people in Hawaii and the Bay Area too. To set things off the right direction, I present to you the runner up for the "We Own The Sky" M83 video which I think was pretty creative. I'll put the winner down there too so you can compare the two. It's another Weekend Jumpoff. Come follow.

WEEKEND RECAP

Meet the Bottom Shelf dream team. Notice my face? Yeah, I was tweakin' on benadryl and I apologize. But Stephen, he's just high on life. Very productive day nevertheless.

Stephen, Cheryl, Me, Eya, Ngoc, & Kao

Went to this new joint called Buddy's Bites and Brews in Hayward with my family. It had authentic burgers, mad good service, plus the surf theme made me feel like I was back home. I even noticed a picture of the Anacapa arch in Ventura hanging on the wall.

Shout out to Hella Tight for the Whities fitted.

That's Ryan Gillette a.k.a. gmoney. He works at Buddy's.

That's Ryan's business card. Definitely a card you'd end up keeping for a while.

On our way home to Ventura, Sunday, we decided to scout San Luis Obispo for more burgers. Town is dead during summer so I thought it was a good getaway for us. Got there around 8 so all retails were closed and most of the restaurants were closing. We ate at Mother's Tavern probably due to its unusual name for a brewery. It's kinda like naming your first born baby girl Maximus. We're drawn to those things like moth to a flame.

We had the Portabella burger. Sounds normal enough?

Not so normal after all. I just don't dig burgers taller than my iphone.

Stumbled upon this alley (next to MO TAV) that had walls covered with thousands of masticated bubble gum hence the name "Bubble Gum Alley". Don't believe me eh?

I'm serus'

Find us right underneath that ass. Literally? Come follow

PIGEON JOHN

Last Saturday, I had the priviledge to witness our friend John Dust a.k.a. Pigeon John (along with Red Cloud) murder the mic in Epic,Ventura. PJ is definitely a very influencial figure to Bottom Shelf as a company, so whether he likes it or not, he's associated with us for the remainder of the world's existence. Raised in Hawthorne, California, and came out of the legendary Good Life Cafe along with the likes of Aceyalone, Freestyle Fellowship, Jurrasic Five, Cut Chemist, and Abstract Rude just to name a few. His smooth delivery, catchy hooks, and lyrical content is enough to make you slap your other favorite rapper. Add to that his comical onstage presence and it's a wrap with a red bow tie, Merry Christmas. He just finished touring Canadawith Josh Martinez last fall after teaming up with Flynn Adam and dropping the "Pink Limousine" under the group Rootbeer. Look forward to PJ's 5th studio album set to drop this year titled "Pigeon John... and the Dragon Slayer" and/or catch one of his upcoming shows listed here, so Come follow.
